The Sisterhood of the Traveling Dress

This is a Family Revised Duets post today. Brenda and I are both posting about the same topic. Hers is way more entertaining, so go check her out. Leave her some comment love, too!

Do you ever "meet" someone on his or her blog and wonder what they are like in person? What their children are like? What they look like?

Well, I always wonder how big someone's children are based on photos I've seen.

As you all well know, JD and I have a 19-month old who is bigger than "average." This generates a lot of conversation; from strangers, family and friends.

One conversation I've been having is with Brenda. You probably know her from her world-famous "Keepin' It Real" segments as well as all of her great homeschooling ideas for her children. Brenda has two daughters. One of them, Little Bit, is 4 1/2 years old. Brenda had heard me say on many occasions that Lorelai is wearing a 4T. 4T = 4Toddler; generally a size that a "typical" four-year-old would wear. I sure am glad they don't continue the sizing chart with age appropriate labels for us adults!

Anyway, when I mention Lorelai's size, Brenda comes back with a "no way" or an "I've gotta see that kid" kind of comment. So, her creative mind went to work recently. Her Little Bit wears a 4T and she just couldn't fathom that a child three years younger would wear the same size as her adorable preschooler. So, she pulled a colorful size 4T dress out of Little Bit's closet and put her in it, for a little photo opp. She then sent the dress to my house and requested a picture of Lorelai in the same dress. To give a reference-point, she positioned Little Bit next to a doorknob.

Check this out. Little Bit is on the left at 4.5 years old. Lorelai is on the right at 1.5 years old. Three year difference. I wish Lorelai would have actually been standing up straight, but you get the idea. Now both Brenda and I get an idea of the size of our baby girls.

This was going to just be a Brenda/Rachel thing. But we wanted to know about the sizes of many other kids in the bloggy word. Thus, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Dress was born!

Corny? Sure.
Fun? Definitely!

The Traveling Dress will now be passed on, with a set of rules of course, to the next recipient. We have a few bloggers in mind for the task, but we'll go ahead and leave it open to see who would like the dress next. You'll take a photo of your youngin' and blog about it. Any takers?

Those of you with boys are not necessarily excluded from this opportunity.

I couldn't resist posting her "cheese" face.

Wow. I can't wait for Cullen to wake up so I can stand him up next to the door!

He's always been in the 90th percentile for height, and somewhere around the 20th percentile for weight! Which makes him one tall, skinny drink of water.

This is the most brilliant idea ever! I would say go ahead and mail it to me since it will take several years anyway for the thing to come through military mail system... Can't wait to see the picture of the next "sister" in the dress.

What a great way to get to know others.

Of course, I could NEVER get my girls to do that now (they are 19 and 12) and would NEVER be able to fit ito the dress.

But looking at the girls you have here in the dress make me remember my girs when they were small. AHHH sweet memories they are!

Thanks! And the cheese smile is priceless!

Send it to me, I'll see if I can fit in it.

Wow! It's one thing to hear it, but to actually see it, that's priceless. I wanna wear the dress now just so I can say I was part of the sisterhood of the travelling dress!

what an awesome idea!
lexie is just over 3 and in about a 4T now (although I find that when I can get 4s, then fit better). She has that toddler belly still, and we are waiting for another few inches... so pants and dresses wear long on her.

That is a fun idea! What a cool comparison shot. I'd love to join my brute of a four year old and teeny two year old in on this... but um, I think Matt would be asking for an annulment faster than I could say "cheese!" if I were to get my boys anywhere near a dress - let alone post photos of them on the world wide web. Ha! My father would probably disown me as well.... So, you girls have fun! ;o}

Oh what a neat idea! I wish I could join you, but I don't have a little one to pose in front of the camera in that dress!

Such precious girls! That's a great idea. I love Lorelai's cheese face! My daughter does it constantly. I'll be a taker on this adventure if y'all don't already have too many people.

Wow! That truly is amazing to actually see it. My Eva just turned 3 in July and is wearing 4t stuff. If you want to send the dress to me, I'll throw her in it and be a part of the sisterhood. I'd be interested to see where she lands in relation to Lorelai and Little Bit.

Fun idea!

What a great idea. I love how all kids come in so many shapes and sizes. Each an individual, but fun to compare. Sorry, but Alayna is just out growing her 0-3 months, therefore i think the dress may be a little big :)

Awesome idea!! I think it would be a scream to put Jonah in this dress because right now he has long blonde curls in the back and big blue eyes...he wears a 2T...so maybe it would be a floor length dress for him - hee-hee. Jon would probably disown me though...not to mention Jonah when he gets older - HA! The dress looks adorable on both girls by the way and love the cheesy grin!!

It might be fun to put my tall and lanky 8 yr old daughter in the dress too. LOL.

Only you would think of this - I love it. I made Deric take a look as soon as he got home... we both had a laugh! Keep it up, your keeping the rest of us on our toes for sure.

I wouldn't definitely put Hunter in a dress for this! Would love to see how my little man compares!!!

All of Hanna's school clothes last year were a size 4... she was 7 years old in 2nd grade.

Lorelai is so cute!!

Okay, so besides Storm wanting to wear the dress and me seriously contemplating sending it to him, Becs was the first to request the dress. Brenda and I are going to come up with our small set of Travel Requirements for the dress and it'll be on a blog near you. Who knows, maybe Brenda and I can come up with a Button you can click on to see where the dress is at any given moment.

Thanks to everyone who wants to participate. I'll be putting your names with the dress as possible options for being the next recipient. I didn't realize this would be so popular!

My friend Sarah's baby Sophie needs to try this on. She's one of the girls on Apt 5B.
