I shaved my head

Some of you know my BFF Kelly. I've been thinking a lot about her recently and I wanted to share one of the many funny stories about her... ahem, honesty.

If y'all remember this post, you probably remember her comment. I had some people email me to see if she was "for real." Y'all, she was. She is just brutally honest like that.

Here's another brutally honest conversation we had a while back.

I was driving to work (two hours away) and started thinking about those shows on TLC where a wife gets diagnosed with cancer and the husband shaves his head so she doesn't have to be bald alone. It's very heartfelt, sweet and emotional. I cry every time I hear those stories. I got to thinking, if I were to ever be diagnosed with cancer, JD couldn't shave his head. I mean, he's already bald, so what could he do!?

Who would shave their head for me so I wouldn't be alone?

Immediately, I think to call Kelly.

I tell her what I'm thinking and ask her....

"Kelly, who would do that for me? Would you???"

Kelly says "sure I would. I would shave my head in an instant for you!"

I reply with tears in my eyes, " you would? for me? you really would?"

Kelly says "of course, Rachel."

Long pause of gratitude.

Kelly breaks the silence with "If I shaved my head for you, then I would be the hero, so you can count on me!"

And she was serious.

So now, if one of us does something selfless for someone else, we say "I shaved my head today."

This blog seriously had me laughing out loud in my room (all by my lonely). That is a serious, true friend when they can be honest like that. I want to meet her! =)
(P.S. Would it be wrong to create a blog for the sole purpose of having my picture by my comment like everyone else?)

I just love kelly..I would think the same way :)

FYI - When I had cancer and my hair fell out, my dad shaved his mustache he had as long as I can remember. Did I tell you he has the smallest upper lip and we were all thankful when my hair grew back and so did his mustache..hehe

Another one for you - when my head was bald i had a girl in highschool come up to me and tell me how punk I was to shave my head. We are still friends 11 years later..hehe

That is TOO funny...I can honestly say that I'd have to REALLY think before making a statment like that to anyone. LOL I'm rather attached to my hair. ha.

I have a little something for ya. Come on over. :)

i love that! i love little inside jokes that GO SO FAR... my personal made-up one is a "poodle purchase" when you've purchased something of some signficant value that you didn't "ask" your husband about... ;-)

I always get teary for the shaved head pacts too...

Awwwww. What a great friend. Solidarity, honesty, heroism. She's got it all.

I read the first post, but not the comments.

Yep. Hers was the best!

Can I just say I appreciate Kelly. I don't know her, I don't think anyway, but I appreciate when people can be so honest like that. I wish there were more out there. I can be that honest with my friends, but not family.

I must say that your friend Kelly sounds like a real hoot. She must be so much fun to hang around. Honesty is a virtue and people aren't honest enough these days. I wish I could hang out with someone that cool. She's amazing!

That is what true friends do and are for!

A friend who was having troubles getting/staying pregnant. I on the other hand had no problems in that department (since Devin seemed to fix the problems that I had) so I offered to be her baby hotel.

She said she actually was considering it until she found out she was pregnant and carried to term!

Good friends are very hard to find and worth everything to keep. At least that is what I believe.
