Take your stocking and stuff it!

I've added a new item to Shut the Front Door.

Before I had Lorelai, I had no idea stuff like this was even necessary. I thought all restaurants gave crayons and coloring books. I thought that restaurants were probably the only place a child would get restless. I did too much thinking...stinking thinking.

Then, I had Lorelai and realized that the bottom of my chic black purse quickly ended up caked with crushed crackers (totally different problem) and broken and/or melted crayons. Every time I leave the house, I throw a few crayons and a sheet of paper in my purse, for that off chance that we might have a two-minute wait ANYWHERE and Lorelai will get bored. Have I mentioned that JD and I have passed our A.D.D. onto our daughter?

Ooh - a butterfly.

With my new obsession of sewing, I figured I could make something to fix this problem. Enter the crayon roll. I thought I was so injenius until I realized that people have been making these for years. Whatever. Mine are better. They come with the Shut the Front Door label!

I made my first roll, then second, third, fourth and fifth. I'm addicted. As with everything I've made so far, I want to keep it all for myself. I guess this is good, but it's also bad. I have about 100 things sitting here waiting to be listed on etsy, but I can bring myself to put them up there, because I love them for me.

So, I broke down and listed ONE of the crayon rolls. It's called Elephant in the Room. Is it not adorable!?I promise to list some more this week, but I also have a bunch of other fabrics waiting around to be crafted. I know you want one, right? Or two? No problem.

If you would like to order more than one, not only will I give you a deal on the shipping, I'll also give you a deal on the rolls. Comment or email me!!!Now you can keep the kids occupied, while they create their masterpieces and you can enjoy your appetizer in peace. You can thank me later. :-)

This is definitely a whole LOT cuter than that plain ole ziploc bag I carry!! It may not be an orginal idea, neither is making bows...it's the WAY we do what we do that makes the difference!!You'd better go make another "Green with Envy" Roll ~ as your "slightly" imperfect one just made it into my shopping cart! :-)

Cyn

Very cute! Makes me think that I could put the felt "keepers" from my grandmothers silver flatware to a new use....Of course, my kids are too old for this but - still - a really great idea. I will keep it in mind for gift ideas.

Cheers!

I guess I am behind the times because I have never seen these, so I will just go ahead and believe that you came up with this fantastic idea. :)

I found you over at Kelly's prayer blog...you caught my eye because you are also waiting on your second child. I'll be praying for you!

Hey Rachel! I would love to buy one of these and plan on it, but was wondering if I could get one in a darker fabric that might not show stains as much. My purse can get kinda dirty at the bottom, which is where the roll will often end up. Let me know if that's possible.

I love how it holds 12 crayons because my two girls each love to have their own handful. :) And even if it's been done before, I had never heard of it so it's news to me!

Love this idea, so adorable.

Have you ever checked out homemadebyjill.blogspot.com? She has some really cute ideas on there that remind me of you. And no, I don't sew, I just dream of all the things I would make if I could!

Do you have more of that elephant fabric? I Love it but it looks like it is very popular already =) I emailed the link to your store to Alex because I am suggesting we get this with Coloring Books for his nephew for Christmas. And actually his sis-in-law is due in Jan. with another one so I am thinking he should get the Monkey Burp cloths too. So adorable!

Cool! You could make marker and pencil crayon sizes too!

I think you're a genius, even if people have made these before. You could do makeup holders like this, too!

Crayon rolls are a fabulous idea. I know what you mean about crayons in the purse. I used to rummage around in my purse and come up with crayon goop under my nails from all the bits in the bottom of my purse.

Have you considered making one of those hooter hider things for breastfeeding mamas? Just a thought :)

I love that! You are so stinkin creative! I think that I might have to buy that from you, even though at the moment Jack doesn't color...but I'm sure he'd be just as entertained eating the crayons. :)

What a brilliant idea Rach! I love it!!!! Now, make one that holds the coloring books so I'm not constantly searching for old receipts for them to draw on! Ha!

You better get sewing - these may just be a top seller!!!

Awesome, awesome, awesome stuff!

PS) We'll miss you this Sunday, but I kinda figured you weren't going to be in town yet. Just wanted to keep you "in the know" just in case! ;o}
