Mommy, what was I like when I was a baby?

Before Lorelai was born, I was given a "Baby's First Year" book to record all of Lorelai's milestones, teething victories and growth anomalies. I did that pretty diligently. I hope to do this with all my children to come.

No, I'm not naive enough to think I'll keep as good of records with subsequent children, but my intentions are to do so. We'll see how I fare.

So, what do you do after the first year? Yes, I have a blog, but I don't blog about EVERY cute thing she does. Let's face it, there's so much cute spewing out of her, that y'all might just burst.

I often hear parents say "gosh, I wish I had journaled all the funny things the kids did and said." I don't want to have to say that. So, I was looking everywhere for a great sturdy journal I could use to chronicle her life randomly when I wanted to jot down things she had done.

Then I found the store Deckled Edge Bindery on Etsy. There were some journals the owner made that I loved, but they weren't exactly yelling "Lorelai!" So, I contacted Shenaynay (I'll call her that, because her name isn't published on her page, so I'm not sure if she wants me to share it) and she was willing to do a custom piece for me.

Not even two weeks later, I got my custom piece of awesomeness in the mail. With over 100 pages of very thick paper (so I can use my Sharpie fine points) and sturdy, girly and pretty binding, I now have a journal that I can keep and fill randomly with kind words, thoughts, and memories for me to cherish until one day Lorelai wants to keep it and share it with her children.

JD likes to refer to Lorelai as "monkey..." therefore, the focus of the piece...
Take a look at her shop. Talk about an easy way to shop for some Christmas gifts! If you don't see something you love, see if she'll create it for you. She has a great eye, kind heart and the patience of Job! (I think I might have made about 239 changes to my original order!)

Thanks, "Shenaynay" for all your help! I love the journal and Lorelai will too!!!

Thanks Rachel! I'm so happy you like the journal. It's nice to think of it years from now all filled up for Lorelai. I had fun making it for you and it was a complete pleasure working with you.

I love it! I have decided to make shutterfly books for each year of Alayna's life. I did one for my pregnancy with her, even put in the embryo pic we got from the IVF place :) I like the journal to record the cute things they say. Also I have printed all the blog pages and am going to scrapbook them. nothing crazy just putting them into a book. She will have so much when she is older...hopefully if another one comes along I can be as dilegent..hehe

I'm such a lazy mom. I have two baby books going at once and they are both about a month behind. The journal is beautiful though.

That book is awesome! I will def check out the shop... after I actually get a paycheck again! I just wonder how you got Shenaynay from Jen...

I can say I would have loved for my mom to fill out my baby book like she filled my brother's. She was too busy with her 9 year old, carting me to football, baseball, basketball games and growing and making from scratch nearly all our food apparently.

So all I know is that hostages were still held in Iran and a few more bits and pieces. I have made sure to include nothing about hostages in either baby book thus far, although hurricane Katrina made it in Lexie's. I have vowed to fill out this one's as much as I can... let's see.

I'm SOOOOOO bad! My baby is 15 months old and I have yet to do an album for her. Oh the guilt I feel over it every day! I really need to get started! lol

Boy....that would be a really nice Christmas gift. Too bad I'm too lazy to fill it out. I need to come up with a neat way to print my blog and display that somewhere. I can't wait to see all the fun things you put in there. Love it!

Okay, so I went back and looked at this again today and I just NOW noticed the actual monkeys. The first time I saw it I was paying close attention to the detail on the back, but not the journal itself, it just looks like filigree. So cute!
