Symphony O' Crickets

Well, we made it to San Antonio. Yeah, a day early, I know. It all started with the darn Hand Foot and Mouth disease. Yeah, Lorelai successfully picked it up. We were worried about her a) spreading her germs to everyone while we took the long route to SA to see friends and family along the way b) her screaming and writhing in pain during said trip and c) not having medical care if needed. So, we decided to bite the bullet and just drive straight through from St. Louis to San Antonio. So, here we are.

Lorelai is an angel. She had a few hours of screaming throughout the trip, but nothing like it could have been! I don't know if it was from the HFMD or just being stuck in a car seat, strapped in, forced to see the same thing and sit in the same way for 15 hours. I wouldn't have been happy either. But, her little rash has turned into a few blisters and has now made it into her mouth. She is simply not showing any signs of pain, though. I truly believe that between JD, me and everyone else praying for us, we prayed away the pain. She looks like she should be in so much pain, but she's happy as can be.

By the way...all of this on top of the fact that Lorelai now has two teeth. Yep, teething, a cold, HFMD...the girl is superwoman, I'm telling you!!! She is now sitting up unassisted. Granted, she falls over and can't get back up, but she'll sit there for an hour, if you let her. She is beginning to see the world from a different point of view and it must be pretty interesting. She still has not crawled, but we're just days away from it, I'm sure. Break out the baby gates!!! She gets up on all fours, rocks and then falls on her face. I don't know why we laugh at her, but we do. I have a video of it, I'll make sure to post it when I get a chance.

We arrived in San Antonio today, boarded Rusty and went to see the outside of the house. It's in such a cute neighborhood and the outside is adorable. Great location in the neighborhood, too. I'll take more pictures, but I don't get to see the inside until tomorrow at 1. Props again to JD, it looks great.

For San Antonio having soooooo much rain in the last month, it is not NEARLY as humid as everyone told me it was going to be. St. Louis is much worse. I'm telling you (people who don't believe me) St. Louis is hot and humid. I know it will end up getting into the 100s here in San Antonio, so I might change my mind, but as of now - it's got nothing on the Lou.

So, lastly....the symphony of crickets. It seems as if New Braunfels (the town we're staying in until we get the house) is having a little cricket problem. And by little, I mean huge. When we walked into our hotel room, I saw 8 right away - six were dead. The other two didn't make it much longer. There are more, I see them pop out every once in a while. They're about an inch to an inch-and-a-half long. It's pretty yucky. But, they'd make for GREAT fishing bait. Too bad we aren't fishing. Needless to say, I did a little calling around and we'll be staying at a different hotel in a different city tomorrow night. I would have gladly packed everything up tonight, but they're all booked. Except for our hotel....wonder why.

Well, that's all for now. The crickets are on intermission, but I'm sure the concert will start up again very soon. I need to see if I can fall asleep before then.

Must. Sleep. With. Mouth. Closed.

I love hearing about all your funny adventures, you can even make a 15 hour car ride "read" interesting. Thanks for updating!
I will keep praying for little Miss Lorelai. Does the HFMD go away on it's own? Miss ya!

Of course Lorelai is Superwoman, she gets it from Wonderwoman, her mommy!! lol I'm so sorry she's having to go through that so early in life. It's no fair. She's such a trooper! I can't believe she's close to walking already. She is no doubt little miss superwoman! Glad you are happy about your house, that's always a plus! Can't wait to see more pics. ~Amy~

I had forgotten about the crickets in Texas. Get used to 'em, it's only going to get worse until fall. You will see sides of buildings (particularly restaurants) literally covered with hundreds of crickets. The smell of dead crickets (because you can't help but walk on the sidewalks and crush them under your feet) gets stuck in your nose. Ugh.

As for the humidity, I thought Missouri was worse, but it seems to last forever with no break in Texas. I remember 20+ days in a row over 100 with high humidity. "Relief" is anything less than a 95 degree day.

But I still love Texas and can't wait to go back!!! :-)
